For the second straight year, Sunlake notched an impressive season-opening victory over longtime county power Pasco, taking down the Pirates 17-13 in Dade City.
Player of the Game Austin Yeloushan led a swarming Seahawks defense that recorded seven tackles for loss and forced three turnovers. Senior RB Nathan Johnson didn't have a huge night on the ground, as Pasco held him to just 54 rushing yards, but he did score both Sunlake touchdowns.
Pasco's Jakiah Felder broke loose for a 45-yd TD run in the second quarter, while Grant Starling finished the night 16-28 for 139 yards and a TD.
Sunlake hosts River Ridge next week, while Pasco looks to rebound on the road against Fivay.
