The nasty weather played havoc across Polk County on Friday night, including in Haines City, where the Hornets hosted Winter Haven.

The Blue Devils led the Hornets 14-6 with 8:39 left in the 3rd quarter, but lightning in the area forced officials to call the game.

Winter Haven jumped on the board in the 1st quarter when QB William Tate found Darius James for the score. After the two-point conversion, the Blue Devils led 8-0.

In the 2nd quarter, the Hornets struck back on a Derwin James touchdown reception from Tybilrius Eaton to cut the deficit to 8-6.

The Blue Devils then when to the ground game and Brandon Bivins. Bivins' touchdown run put Winter Haven up 14-6 at the half.

In the 3rd quarter, the Hornet defense brought the pressure on Tate, forcing a fumble with Haines City recovering.

But that's when the lightning came and the game was called with Winter Haven earning the win 14-6.

The Blue Devils will be put to the test next week when they host Lakeland, while Haines City will travel to Liberty.
