Here is this week's Tampa Bay volleyball rankings after the opening week of the season. Last week's record in parenthesis.
1. (1) Clearwater Central Catholic (0-0) - The Marauders open their season this week against Indian Rocks Christian, which will be aired at 7 p.m. on BHSN Thursday.
2. (3) Bloomgindale (1-0) - The Bulls swept Steinbrenner to open the season. It was an impressive win, on the road, nonetheless.
3. (4) Manatee (2-0) - The 'Canes avoided an early-season upset to Braden River, then handled Bayshore easily in straight sets.
4. (2) Steinbrenner (1-1) - Following a loss to Bloomingdale and a win over King, big tests loom in Wiregras Ranch and Academy of the Holy Names.
5. (6) Tampa Prep (1-0) - The Terps got a nice sweep over Tampa Catholic to begin the season, now it's on to the AHN tournament this weekend.
6. (5) Berkeley Prep (1-1) - Berkeley lost to Calvary Christian, but then got a big, five-set win over Bishop Moore. A huge match this week with Steinbrenner is looming.
7. (10) Calvary Christian (2-0) - Impressed by the Warriors sweep of Berkeley Prep.
8. (7) George Jenkins (0-0) - Jenkins is the class of Polk County in 2014.
9. (NR) Fivay (2-0) - The Falcons gutted out two five-set wins to open the season.
10. (8) Plant (0-1) - The Panthers opened up the season with a loss to Wharton.
