In what will likely turn out to be a preview of the class 6A district 10 championship matchup, the Mitchell Mustangs and the Largo Packers squared off for the first time this season. Each team entered the night undefeated in district play But only one team would remain unbeaten.

The Mustangs played with a chip on their shoulder after being swept by Largo in all three of their meetings last season. Mitchell jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the 1st quarter with a balanced attack from their trio of seniors SF Mike Freeman (8 points, 5 rebounds), PG Brian Powers (10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks) and BHSN Player of the Game SF Lawrence Watt (21 points, 7/9 field goals, 7/7 free throws).

Largo fought back and out-scored Mitchell 13-10 in the third quarter. Junior SF Dakari Allen shouldered the load for his team with 11 points, but the Packers couldn't make up for their poor shooting in the first half.

The Mustangs would go on to win 62-40.

These two teams will meet again next Friday at Osceola High School in their last regular season district matchup.
