Records are made to be broken.

One diving record at Berkeley Prep stood firm since 2001. That is until Nicole Stambo shattered it.

The freshman set a new mark with a 522.9 at the Class 1A-District 7 meet.

“It's really good for someone to break a record at the school,” Berkeley Prep swim and dive coach Kevin Rosepapa said. “We've had many, many great divers.

"We've been one of the elite diving programs in the state for the last 15 years.”

The fact Stambo broke the record at such a young age, with so much of her high school career ahead of her bodes well for her future in diving.

“It feels amazing to have my name up on the wall and know that I like did that,” Stambo said. “It's a huge confidence booster to know that I can do something like that and that my dives are good enough to get me to that point.”

Next up is Friday’s regional meet and then a likely date at the state meet in Stuart.
