Extra points: Cambridge advanced to the postseason for the first time in school history. The Lancers played for baseball state championships in 2008 and ‘09 but this is their first state football title game appearance.

To help prepare for the season, Cambridge was one of only two teams in the state of Florida to use a virtual reality training system. The Tampa Bay Bucs were the other team. This is University Christian’s ninth state title game appearance. The Fightin’ Christians have won seven state championships, the last one in 2012 when they defeated Miami Dade Christian 28-10 for the 2A title.

Miami Washington is the three-time defending state champs. Last year, they defeated Jacksonville Bolles, 54-35 for the 4A title.

Bolles knocked out Raines in the regional finals. This is Raines first trip to the state championship since 1997 when they defeated Glades Central for the 4A title. …The 3A title game between Trinity Christian and American Heritage is a rematch of last year’s title game. Trinity Christian won 27-7.

Port St. Joe is the defending 1A champion. The Tiger Sharks shutout Hamilton County 16-0 last year to win its fourth football title. This is Trenton’s third trip to the state championship in the past four years. They won the 1A title in 2013.

Class 5A-8A title games will be held at the Citrus Bowl Dec. 11-12.
