Jaylin Jackson did a little bit of everything in Cambridge Christian’s state semifinal victory over First Baptist.

The Lancers sophomore ran for a touchdown. He threw a touchdown and he returned an interception for a touchdown.

“I just did my best and I helped my team win," Jackson said. "And we just came and did our thing. And now are in a state championship."

That pick six proved to the game winner that advanced the Lancers to their first state championship game. They play University Christian for the Class 2A title Friday at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

The young Jackson is one of the many reasons Cambridge is enjoying a magical season.

“He's risen to the occasion. He's been a leader. He's a play maker," Dare said. "There are some times where everybody will come to the sideline or someone will congratulate me for the play call and I'm going, well, I didn't call that play but the playmaker made a play.”

Jackson had never started a game at the quarterback position before this season. Now he looks like a veteran as he and his Cambridge teammates continue to make history.

“We thought about it, and it lingered in our head. We just stayed focused the whole year. And we executed. And we're here now.”
