In front of a record crowd of 4,319 at Jay Bergman Field, No. 9 UCF won its first-ever matchup of top-ten ranked teams by holding on for a 4-3 win over the No. 2 Florida Gators on Tuesday night.

The Knights (11-1) got a three-RBI performance from Tommy Williams, while Trent Thompson pitched the final two innings of scoreless ball for his second save of the season. Harrison Hukari (3-0) picked up the win for UCF.

Williams opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, followed by a James Vasquez single to put UCF up 2-0 after four innings.

The Gators closed to within one run on a Josh Tobias RBI groundout in the fifth, but UCF opened up a 4-1 lead when Williams smacked a two-run double in the sixth.

Florida's Dalton Guthrie plated two runners on a double in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3, but that's as close as Florida would get, as the Gators squandered a chance in the eighth inning with a double play.

The teams play each other again on Wednesday, this time in Gainesville, with the game being televised by the SEC Network.
