Early in the high school track season, some athletes are already turning in eye-popping performances. Hillsborough High sophomore Daneesha Davidson had a break-out day at the Charles Johnson Invitational, nearly leading her team to victory.

Davidson won the 100m and 300m hurdles, along with the triple jump, where she recorded a personal best 36 feet at the Charles Johnson Invitational. The sophomore, who transferred from Wharton, also took third in the long jump and was named MVP for the meet.

“She’s a hard worker,” Terriers senior sprinter Jada Roberson said. “You don’t really see that with the freshmen and sophomores, but she works really hard. She’s going to do some big things.”

Roberson has instilled a lot of confidence in Davidson, and the two have created a special bond on and off the track.

“She pushes me,” Davidson said of Roberson. “ She’s faster so I try to keep up with her and then in jumps she’s a little more explosive than me so it’s like a competition everyday out here.”

“Jada is definitely a role model and I see Daneesha following in her footsteps,” Hillsborough girls track coach added.
