With one swing, Cassidy Davis solidified her Newsome High team's state championship and her spot in history.

Davis took a first pitch with two outs in the top of the seventh inning against Coral Reef and drove the ball over the left field wall.

"She had been throwing me inside all game, so I was ready for that," Davis said. "Then it just happened to be my pitch. I hit it pretty well."

The two-run homer made it 5-1 Newsome and clinched the school's first ever team state championship. Winning a title is one thing, making history at your school is another and Davis played a big role in making that happen.

"Cassidy is one of those players that's not giving up," Newsome softball coach Autumn Dunn said. "She's going to give everything she has 100% of the time."

Davis started the game on the mound where she went six innings allowing only one run. She finished in left field where she very fittingly caught the final out.

Then it was time to celebrate with her teammates.

"We've had a lot of talent the last couple of years, but we've never really brought it all together," Davis said. "But this year, we really emphasized being a family, acting like sister and that really helped us a lot. I wouldn't want to be here with anyone else."
