There is going to be a whole lot of bump, set and spike going on at the Orange County Convention Center this week as the world’s largest volleyball tournament comes to town.

The 42nd annual AAU Volleyball Nationals will be taking over OCCC, Disney’s Wide World of Sports and Orlando Sports Center thru June 26th for a total of 11 days of competition.

In 2012 the event set the current Guinness Book of World Records for the largest volleyball tournament in the world. Every year since its surpassed the previous and increased in participation.

“There is some thought right now that this may not only be the world’s largest volleyball event but it may be world’s largest sporting event because we have over 30-thousand people, coaches and players and 105-thousand spectators coming into the area,” AAU President/CEO Roger J. Goudy said.

The event attracts some of the top talent in the world and even becomes a bit of a staycation for local teams like Orlando volleyball academy.

“It’s really great to sleep in our own beds and come and play competition from around the nation,” OVA Libero Kennedy Wilson-Talmadge said. “We just get to test how hard we’ve been working and is a great prep for college so it’s been really fun.”
