The Clearwater Tornadoes finished an impressive showing in the BHSN/Big County Preps 9 Route 7-on-7 Tournament with a championship game victory over Lake Gibson, taking down the Braves 19-14.

Seeded #2 in the 16-team invitational after pool play, Clearwater knocked off defending champion Tampa Bay Tech in the semifinals on Saturday, setting up the showdown in Sunday's championship with a perennial Polk County power. Behind rising star Garrison Bryant (interest from Duke and UCF), the Tornadoes came back from a 14-0 deficit, scoring 19 unanswered points to win the title. Their defense recorded three interceptions and held Lake Gibson scoreless for the last 26 minutes. Bryant finished the championship game 16-25 for 205 yards and 3 TD. Leading receiver Jacquez Jones earned Player of the Game honors, with 6 receptions for 102 yards and 2 TD.

The Tornadoes look to build on their summer momentum under first-year head coach Don Mesick. In 2014, they were 4-6, their best record since 2010, and now Tornadoes players have their sights set on making the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

Meanwhile a young Lake Gibson squad known more for its standout linemen recruits gained valuable experience with their skill position players. QB Hunter Orem (FIU offer) went 20-33 on the day for 188 yards and 2 TD. His leading receiver was Ledarian McAllister (8 receptions, 79 yards), while Anthony Llosa had an impressive first-half TD reception (6 receptions, 59 yards). In the fall, the Braves will be also able to lean on offensive linemen Baveon Johnson (Florida State) and Michael Wiggs (USF), plus defensive line star Keyshon Camp (USC).
