How far would you travel so your kids could go to a hockey camp?

At least three kids from Sweden traveled with their families, 12 hours by plane, to attend the Lightning Made Summer Camp in Ellenton.

With a six hour time difference, Max and Ross Jaldung said they woke up at 2 a.m. to watch every Lightning Stanley Cup game.  They are in Florida now to learn what makes an Eastern Conference Champion.

"How to have quicker hands when you dribble," said 12-year-old Max.

"I learned how to protect the puck and how to see your teammates and your opponents," said 13-year-old camper Emil Lindvall.

"It’s really fun to learn of people who have been to the Stanley Cup Finals," said 14-year-old Ross Jaldung.

The campers also skated with newly acquired forward Erik Condra.  He signed a three-year free agency deal July 1st, leaving the Ottawa Senators after three seasons.

"I think that I am an up-tempo player," said Condra, who is down in Florida looking for a house with his wife.  "I can play at high speeds and I can play up and down the ice."

A Michigan native, Condra grew up idolizing then Red Wings star and current Lightning GM Steve Yzerman.  Jon Cooper first coached Condra 12 years ago as a member of the Texarkana Bandits of the NAHL.  Fast friends, Condra was an usher at Cooper's wedding.

"I think he gets his players to play and go through walls for him," said Condra when asked about playing for Cooper.  "For whatever reason, he’s a player’s coach and guys like to play for him."

Condra, who played his college hockey at Notre Dame, is expected to be a key piece of Cooper's penalty kill this coming season.

"Anyway I can help, blocking shots, or getting it out," said Condra.  "I take pride in playing the penalty kill."

As for the future of the sport, Condra left campers with one piece of advice.

"Have fun and enjoy it," said Condra.  "Don't put too much pressure on yourself or you'll never end up where you want to be."

The next Lightning Made Summer Camp is July 20th-24th in Kissimmee.  For details on Lightning community hockey events click here.
