For DeShawn Smith, there’s nothing like Friday nights. That’s his time to shine.

There was no greater time than last Friday night when the Nature Coast senior running back rushed for 413 yards and scored eight touchdowns, new school and Hernando County records. Through four games this season, Smith's scored a nation-best 19 touchdowns.

“Game time, it's time to show what you been working for," Smith said. Working for a long time now. Friday night those are the best I look forward to it. Every Friday it's the best feeling ever.”

It didn't take long before Smith knew the game against Central was going to be special.

“After my first long run I was like here we go," Smith said. "We were just like, we got to start rolling, can't stop me now. I was pretty tired, but I give it my all till the end, so I'm tired regardless.”

One of his touchdown runs left the Nature Coast sideline stunned.

“It looked at first like you could tell he was tired, a little slow," head coach Justin Worden said. "And then the first kid hit him, he took off on the first kid and then he got whacked again by the second kid and spun off him and did some Matrix move on another kid.

"I would say on that run definitely everybody on the sideline was like dang that was like ridiculous.”
