When Miriam Schmoll is on, so is the Bayshore Bruins softball team.

Schmoll blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall in the first inning, setting a tone for the Bruins. Not to be left out, Bayshore catcher LaShara James went yard in the top of the third for a 3-0 Bruins lead. It set the tone as Bayshore cruised to a 5-1win over defending state champs Baker County.

Baker County rallied in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of hits. But Schmoll helped retire the next two batters to get the Bruins out of the jam.

Schmoll tacked on two more for Bayshore with a two-run double in the top of the fifth  to make it 5-0.

Baker County loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth, with two outs. But once again, Bayshore got out of the jam without any damage.

The Wildcats finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the six with a solo home run from Madison Kennedy. But that was the only run Baker County produced.

Bayshore advanced to the program's first championship game in school history.

They will take on Coral Springs Charter, winners of the other semifinal. Coral Springs defeated South Sumter 6-0.

Mired in a pitching duel, the teams were scoreless through three innings before Coral Springs put up a run in the top of the fourth. The Panthers added five runs in the seventh and South Sumter didn't have a response.

Coral Springs Charter will play Bayshore for the 5A title LIVE on BHSN (Channel 47/HD 1147) Saturday at 10 a.m.
