Following Saturday’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Toronto FC, Orlando City SC returns to 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play on Wednesday, June 29, when it hosts the North American Soccer League’s (NASL) Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the Round of 16. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Camping World Stadium.

“We played them here in the preseason so we know most of their players. Most of them have played in the MLS at some stage so we know quite a bit about them. We’ve watched the last couple of games on tape and they’re going to be highly motivated because the fact is they’re playing Orlando City,” Lions Head Coach Adrian Heath said.  “Any team that’s in Florida, I think, would see us as a pretty big scalp so I expect nothing different on Wednesday night. We’ll treat the game with the importance that it deserves because it’s a big game for us. We want to progress.”

Orlando City is coming off an exhilarating 3-2 win over Toronto on Saturday. Kevin Molino made a perfect pass to striker Cyle Larin to open the scoring in the fifth minute before chipping a ball to Adrian Winter for the go-ahead goal in the 83rd. Toronto’s Sebastian Giovinco set up Justin Morrow’s 90th-minute equalizer before Kaká won it in the 10th minute of stoppage time with a penalty kick off the crossbar and in.

Larin’s goal on Saturday extended his team lead to eight, while Molino’s two assists tied Kaká for the team lead with five. Molino is also second on the team with six goals.

In its last Open Cup match, City defeated the NASL’s Jacksonville Armada 1-0. Júlio Baptista found David Mateos for his first goal with the Lions in the second half as Orlando City stayed undefeated against non-MLS teams in the nation’s oldest soccer tournament. Goalkeeper Earl Edwards made four saves to earn his second Open Cup win.

Fort Lauderdale advanced to the Round of 16 with two penalty-kick victories, first defeating the Richmond Kickers 2-0 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Then, in the fourth round, Fort Lauderdale tied MLS side D.C. United 0-0 but advanced, 4-3, on penalties. The Strikers are one of two non-MLS teams still alive.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will play the winner between the Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew. Four more wins and Orlando City earns one of four spots for American teams in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Lions return to MLS play on Monday, July 4, for the first of two consecutive games against Lone Star State teams. After Monday’s match, the Lions return to Camping World Stadium to face the Houston Dynamo on Friday, July 8. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
