Police have identified the two suspects in the killing of a toddler who was found dead on Monday.

Las Vegas Metro Police say the boy's mother, 20-year-old Cassie Smith, was involved in the killing with her boyfriend, 40-year-old Joshua Oxford.

Smith reported 3-year-old Daniel Theriot missing on Sunday morning. She told police he had gone missing at the park, but officers said her story didn't check out. The boy was found Monday near Lake Mead.

Police also said Smith's other son, a 2-year-old, showed signs of child abuse and was taken into the custody of the department of child services.

Smith and Oxford face one count of child abuse related to the younger sibling, but will likely be charged with murder.

A 3-year-old boy reported missing Sunday has been found dead, and police say his mother and her boyfriend are suspected of killing him.

Las Vegas Metro Police say the boy, Daniel Theriot, was found Monday morning, hours after he was reported missing.

Lt. Ray Spencer said the boy's 20-year-old mother and her 40-year-old boyfriend were arrested on charges of child abuse relating to another child at their home, but that they'll likely be charged with the killing. Police haven't identified them.

Spencer said the mom called police saying that she lost sight of the boy when she made a call while at a park. Police searched but became suspicious when the details the mother provided didn't add up.

The boy was found in a remote area near Lake Mead. Spencer said the boy's killing is "deeply disturbing."
