TAMPA, Fla. -- Hundreds of kids got a chance to play football with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers themselves.
- Bucs QB Jameis Winston held annual youth football camp
- Hundreds of children attended the event
Bucs Quarterback Jameis Winston held another Youth Football Procamp.
Seeing Winston with the participants shows him in his element: being a big kid with the campers.
"This is my space. We want to be 100 percent present for these kids," Winston said. "They get a chance to play football with me today. They see me at the game, they see me on the field, on TV, but they don't get a chance to get affiliated with me in this way."
He and several other players like Gerald McCoy got to show kids ages 1 to 8 how to play like the pros.
"It's all about this community and getting these kids together. I want to show my love for this community," Winston said.
Parents like Kelly Francis says there's nothing else out there like it for her son.
"Seeing a kid smile, seeing them one on one with these players, that's pretty awesome," Francis said.
For the third year in a row, Winston opened up the Bucs facility to 300 campers from all over the country. That includes 15 from his hometown in Alabama and 75 from the Special Olympics.
However he tells us this year, there's something in his personal life that makes this camp mean even more to him.
Winston glowed when saying he is about to be a husband and father and how that makes him appreciate camps like this even more.
"I'm about to have personal experience because my child is going to grow up in this community hopefully. It's exciting. It's exciting to be able to put on things like this," Winston said.
The camp also worked with charities to provide camp scholarships for disadvantaged youth in the area.
