INVERNESS, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Environmental Projects is allowing residents to drop off tires at the Citrus County landfill for free.
- Runs through July 26 - 28
- Residents can dispose up to 25 tires without rims for free
- Goal is to limit standing water to control mosquito population
This comes in response to mosquito control in the area. Standing bodies of water can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, who have been known to carry numerous diseases, including the Zika virus.
To limit the amount of still water, Citrus County Solid Waste Management Division will be accepting tires at the Central Landfill free of charge for recycling at the end of July.
Residents can dispose up to 25 tires without rims on them for free. This event is intended for residents only.
