POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- An alleged beer thief who was shot last week by a store owner has died from his injuries, and the owner now faces new charges.
Rennie Defoe, Jr. died this weekend at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Mehedeun Hasan, the convenience store owner accused of shooting Defoe, has now been charged with second-degree murder.
He remains in the Polk County Jail without bond.

The incident happened around 11:40 p.m. at a Shell gas station located at 125 Combee Road North in Lakeland.
Deputies said Rennie Defoe, Jr., 43, walked into the store and picked up three 18-packs of Natural Ice beer, valued at $36, and then left without paying.
Mehedeun Hasan, 22, the co-owner of the store, grabbed a 9mm handgun and ran after Defoe to confront him.
Deputies said Defoe tossed the stolen beer in and jumped in his car to leave. As Defoe was pulling away, Hasan chased after him and shot Defoe once, injuring his left arm and chest. Defoe continued to drive off and then crashed his vehicle at the intersection of East Main Street and Fish Hatchery Road.
Defoe was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.
Hasan was charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted 2nd degree murder.
Deputies also noted that Defoe has 12 prior felony charges and nine prior misdemeanor charges and was recently released from prison on June 12, 2018.
