MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Two teens were killed in a collision in Bradenton on Saturday night.
- Teens killed in Bradenton crash
- Two others injured; 12-year-old critical
- Teens were on their way to homecoming
The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. on State Road 64 and Pope Road.
Troopers said a Honda Accord traveling westbound on SR 64 attempted to make a left turn onto Pope Road and failed to see an Dodge Ram traveling eastbound.
The Dodge crashed into the right side of the Honda.
The driver of the Honda, Chase Coyner, 17, and his passenger, Matthew Powers, 15, were killed in the crash.
The two friends were on their way to homecoming at Lakewood Ranch High School.
As friends of the two teens gathered at the crash site Sunday, they said it didn't feel real. J.D. Brown was a close friend of Coyner and said he was into photography and wanted to be a pilot.
"He was really witty," Brown said. "He was smart, just quick on his feet."
Powers played clarinet in the high school marching band. Powers' band teacher said he was a very likeable teen who would often wear Hawaiian shirts.
"Band practices on Tuesday, there's just going to be a space missing," fellow band member Alyssa Vickrey said.
The driver of the Dodge, 39-year-old Dallas Gross, received minor injuries and his passenger, 12-year-old Ayla Gross is in critical condition at John Hopkins All Children's Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
