ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A family is mourning a woman who was killed during a drive-by shooting in St. Petersburg on Sunday.

The accused shooter is behind bars.

The shooting happened about 10 a.m. at 2000 45th Street South in the Twin Brooks neighborhood. Police said 29-year-old Jamal Walker was trying to shoot the driver of a white pickup truck as it drove on 45th Street North.

Police said he missed the truck, instead hitting 38-year-old Aesha Kendrick, who was on her porch. 

Neighbors said they heard about five gunshots and then screams. One neighbor performed CPR until medics arrived.

Kendrick was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. 

Police said Kendrick's children were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured. 

Neighbors say Kendrick was set to start a new job on Monday. She leaves behind five children, ranging in age from 1 to 17.  

"My daughter is dead," said Paul Lucas Jr. "I have no other kids, but I have five grandkids that I am going to have to find a way to take care of."

Walker faces charges of second-degreee murder and attempted murder. 

The investigation remains ongoing.
