TAMPA, Fla. — Rescue crews continue to pilot boats and wade through inundated streets in southwest Florida to save thousands of people trapped amid flooded homes and shattered buildings left by Hurricane Ian.

Those cleanup efforts are continuing in what is expected to be a weeks to months-long process. 

The storm made landfall Wednesday afternoon in southwest Florida. 

The Tampa Bay area was largely spared as the storm battered the Fort Myers area.
