RUBONIA, Fla. — Becky Buky is listing off just a few of the hundreds of donations for families in Rubonia whose homes were damaged by this year’s hurricanes.

What You Need To Know

  • Becky Buky and Kelly Hunt have teamed up to help hurricane victims in Rubonia in Manatee County

  • Right now, they are in need of home appliances like refrigerators, wall A/C units and hot water heaters
  • Buky and Hunt are still asking for help from the community to fulfill donations, and set up a GoFundMe page

It’s a team effort to get over 20 families in the area appliances and other necessities that they no longer have.

Two moms from Anna Maria Island, Becky Buky and Kelly Hunt, decided to collect donations from people in their community.

One of the homes in need belongs to Veronica McCrea, who is currently living between her car and hotels.

“My mom had a stroke, and my dad’s a nurse at home, so there’s not much that I can do," McCrea said. "And I’m on dialysis, so I just need help getting back in the house."

For Christmas, the moms have already gathered more than 200 gifts for children from families that can’t afford presents this year.

“When you see the expression on the parents’ faces, it’s unbelievable," Buky said. "More than you could ever imagine."

Jazmin Maradiagh is one of those parents. She is a mom of five, with her sixth child on the way.

“To see their faces that day, it’s going to mean so much to us," Maradiagh said of her children. "Since everything happened, we had to replace so much and rebuild. It’s definitely a big help. It’s a load off our shoulders."

It’s a load the two moms say they don’t mind carrying, because for them, helping people in their community is the greatest gift they can give this Christmas.

Buky and Hunt are still asking for help from the community to fulfill donations, and set up a GoFundMe page. Right now, they are in desperate need of hot water heaters and A/C units for families in Rubonia.
