Plans for a new charter school in Pasco County are moving forward, despite an investigation into the company's parent organization.
K12-Florida, which operates virtual schools in Florida, has been accused of hiring uncertified teachers.
According to Bay News 9's partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, Pasco County officials have recommended the charter school's request despite the claims.
The company wants to create a Florida Virtual Academy of Pasco County.
The Marion County School Board recently rejected a similar proposal. Several Marion board members cited the state investigation into the subsidiary of Virginia-based K12 Inc. as a key factor in their decision.
Meanwhile, Pasco school district's charter school supervisor Nancy Scowcroft provided information about the state investigation and other concerns about K12 in her recommendation, which went to School Board members on Wednesday.
A final decision is expected next week at the school board meeting.
