- HOW TO HELP: Christian Disaster Response
A Christian Response Crew is taking a large mobile kitchen north to feed disaster victims. The group from Winter Haven headed out early Wednesday morning.
The 12 volunteers will first respond to Ft. Mill, South Carolina.
From there, the group will head to wherever they are needed.
Volunteers spent Monday prepping for the trip, cleaning their mobile kitchen and barbecue grill.
The group travels the country aiding people impacted by disasters.
Last year at this time, the group didn't have to go far to help, assisting in the days after Hurricane Irma.
"It’s in our name, Christian Disaster Response," said Mark Bell with Christian Disaster Response. "We feel that the heart of Christ is to reach out to people in a disaster like this so that’s what we’re doing.
"We reach out to people and be the hands and feet of Jesus."
In addition to providing hot meals to people, the group also passes out recovery kits and healthy hygiene kits.
"It’s just very rewarding," said volunteer Elaine Gerstman. "And I love to help people and there are so many there that need help."
