HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a bicyclist. 

Investigators said 73-year-old John Dilgard was riding a yellow Duna mountain bike southbound on Kings Avenue South around 12:45 a.m. when he was struck from behind.

Deputies said the vehicle left the scene and witnesses called to report a person down near the intersection of Kings Ave. and Calm Drive. 

Dilgard was pronounced dead on scene. 

Investigators said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash. 

A potential suspect and vehicle have been located, deputies said, and charges are pending.
