A squall line is a narrow but elongated line of thunderstorms. You usually see these form along the leading edge of a cold front.

We associate squall lines with strong winds, heavy rain and can produce tornadoes too. Since squall lines move quickly and are narrow, the intense burst of weather doesn’t last very long.
