CLEARWATER, Fla. — Maryanne Hipple has always loved history. In 2016, she started teaching it at Clearwater High School. Her teaching career began there in 2005. She loves helping her students understand what happened in the past and how those events shaped the future.

“I tell them that the world makes more sense when you understand history,” said Hipple.
Her teaching style is to find ways for her students to relate to what they’re learning about. She also teaches them about events that happened in the Bay area.
“I want them to understand that history is all around us. It’s not just something that’s in textbooks and history books,” said Hipple. She went on to say, “I always try to make as many local connections as I can, too, like when we talk about World War II and the training that went on here.”
Hipple was nominated to be an A+ Teacher by her colleagues. They say she’s up for any challenge and goes above and beyond to help her students succeed.
In addition to teaching, Hipple is the President of the Pinellas Council for Social Studies. She also started a chapter of a national honor society club at Clearwater High School.
