TAMPA, Fla. — The deadline to apply for School Choice in Hillsborough County Schools for the 2024-25 school year is quickly approaching.
Parents that want to send their kids to alternate schools than they are assigned have until the end of the day on Friday to submit an application.
Florida has expanded school choice for the 2024-25 school year, dropping the income-eligibility requirement.
That means more students than ever before will have the ability to jump schools.
Ikeshia Highsmith has been using school choice for five years.
She has two students enrolled in Hillsborough County Schools.
The family lives in Carrollwood but has choiced in to Turner-Bartels Elementary School because Highsmith says she likes the school’s team effort on educating kids.
“I love the way the teachers particularly approach teaching my kids,” said Highsmith. “I have one child that has a disability and needs a little more time, but the teachers are really hands on. They assist at any point, in any creative ways that they can help out my son, they do that.”
