Phones have already been steadily ringing at Rich’s Auto Tech in West Melbourne.

Customers are trying to get their cars, trucks or SUVs road trip ready as they travel during the holiday period.

“We have a lot more people that are coming out and they are trying to get trip checks done,” said shop owner Cody Naber.

AAA says the most common issues they help with are dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts.

“We’re checking everybody’s fluids, especially wiper blades. It’s Florida, it’s rainy season, so we’re doing a lot of wiper blades,” Naber said.

Naber and his team don’t mind being busy, as their customer’s safety is their goal.

“Maintenance is always proactive, I tell our customers, as long as you take care of the car, the car will take care of you,” he said.

If you have car trouble, officials recommend:

  • Pulling safely over to the shoulder and turn on your hazard lights.
  • Watch oncoming traffic when getting out of the vehicle.
  • When on the interstate, try and safely get to the next exit.

AAA also recommends having an emergency kit filled with a flashlight, extra batteries, first aid items, drinking water and snacks for people and pets.
