TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a fully involved fire in a scrapyard located in the 4600 block of N. Lois Ave. around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Firefighters fought the fire with "ground and aerial attacks," according to the department.
A representative from Tampa Fire Rescue reported that the fire was about 90% contained before afternoon showers started in the area and was completely out in about 45 minutes. They also reported that workers from the scrapyard were able to use their heavy equipment to move piles of the recycled metals for firefighters to attack the fire.
Lois Ave. was temporarily closed between Cayuga St. and W. MLK Blvd.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
