TAMPA, Fla. — Police were still investigating Thursday afternoon after a vehicle hit five children and two adults at a bus stop.

Two responding paramedics were also injured in a separate crash.
The first crash occurred at E. Bougainvillea Avenue and Marvy Avenue around 8 a.m. A press release stated a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident with "multiple juveniles injured." Police later said five children — four of them 6 years old, the other one 12 years old — were hurt.
Two of the children suffered serious injuries.
Two adults — identified as 31-year-old Yanely Jurado and 32-year-old Laura Patino Chavez — were also hit and injured. Their injuries weren't serious.
Witnesses stated the vehicle was speeding on Bougainvillea Avenue before hitting the pedestrians on the south side of the street.
Bougainvillea was shut down between N. 15 St. and N. 18th St. for more than three hours.
Officials said the driver — identified as Brian Darnell — was taken into custody and the investigation remains ongoing. Police said charges are pending.
Police also said a responding ambulance was involved in a crash a few blocks away. The ambulance was turning east onto Bougainvillea when it was hit by another vehicle.
Two first-responders in the ambulance were taken to Tampa General Hospital and were listed in stable condition.
