PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Hurricane Milton hit weeks ago, but one Pasco County man said he was just recently able to get back to his property because of how badly it was flooded.

What You Need To Know

  • Jeffrey Murray returned to his home for the first time weeks after Hurricane Milton passed through

  • He has no electricity and no water at his home

  • He said he's still waiting for FEMA to look at his property

Jeffery Murray lives along the Withlacoochee River and is still dealing with the aftermath of the storm.

"It was a lovely country green setting before, and now it's completely wiped out," he said. "I mean, the grass is gone, the driveway is gone, furniture is gone."

Murray may be able to get to his home, but it's not somewhere he can stay.

There's no water, no electricity, and his home was robbed while he was away.

He said behind every door, he finds something new that was destroyed.

"It's just that musty, stale air, like you'd imagine a swamp or something to smell like, combined with a little bit of mold and mildew and all your stuff just rotting away," he said.

Not the only one in this situation, Murray worries about his neighbors.

He’s hopeful FEMA can help, but is still waiting.

With the high water and a tree still blocking the way to his home, they haven’t been able to come.

“It's weighing out whether I can stay," he said. "This is so much to try and rebuild everything and replant. I can’t feed the cows that were in the pasture, the chickens are all dead, and the dogs can’t live in this. I don’t know if I can live in this.”

Spectrum News contacted FEMA to ask when they believe they’ll be able to look at Murray’s property, but have not yet heard back.
