Congressman Jim Jordan (R-04) spoke with Spectrum News 1 on Wednesday about President Trump’s State of the Union, his positions on the House Oversight and House Judiciary committees, and the issues that matter most to his constituents. (You can watch the full interview in the video above)

Jordan said he liked Trump’s speech and was especially moved by how the president spoke about abortion and protecting the sanctity of life.

As an outspoken supporter of the president and his campaign promise for a southern border wall, Jordan said Trump did the right thing by dedicating part of his address to what he called a ‘crisis’ at the border.

Jordan said he’s not sure how anyone could say there’s not a crisis there, despite the president’s intelligence chiefs not citing the border in recent congressional testimony about threats facing the country.

In Congress, Jordan serves on the powerful House Judiciary and House Oversight committees.

Asked about how he’ll approach his new role as ranking member on oversight, Jordan said he will use his platform to defend the president whenever he feels Trump is being treated unfairly.

Jordan said many of his constituents back home are concerned about how the FBI is handling various investigations, including into Hillary Clinton. He claims there is a double standard.

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee held its first hearing in eight years on gun violence.

Jordan said he was only able to attend part of it because of other committee meetings, but he defended the Second Amendment and said gun ownership makes people safer.
