"The pen is mightier than the sword,” was first introduced to the world by novelist and playwright Edward Buller-Lytton in 1839. It would be more than a century later those same words would direct the path of Deborah Souverain’s life. She wanted to put the old adage to the test, and it spurred her interest in speaking truth to power through journalism.

Deborah was born and raised in Florida, but she got her first taste of reporting in the heartland of America where there are endless fields of opportunities. In the good ole’ corn country: Iowa! Deborah worked in Sioux City, IA where she had the opportunity to interview several presidential candidates during the 2016 presidential election. She also had the unique chance to cover a first in the nation caucus.
While she enjoyed her time in the Midwest, it was too cold for this Florida girl. Deborah soon worked her way to Southwest Florida where she worked as a general assignment reporter. She grew up in Orlando and always had a goal of returning home to cover stories that matter to the communities she grew up around. Prior to working in front of the camera, Deborah was behind the scenes. She worked as a news writer while attending Florida International University, and later she earned the opportunity to work as an Associate Producer in Miami.
Deborah graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, and she also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She is a first-generation American born to Haitian immigrants, and she says she’s beyond grateful to be back home in O-town. Story ideas are always appreciated!
