ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A former candidate for a district attorney in Maine was arrested in Florida on Tuesday on sexual misconduct charges.

Orlando police arrested Seth Carey of Rumford, the Bangor Daily News reported. He has been charged with attempted gross sexual assault, attempted aggravated sex trafficking and other charges, the paper reported.

The charges against Carey followed a three-year investigation.

A judge previously suspended Carey's license for sexual assault, witness tampering and failing to comply with a previous interim order. A woman reported to Rumford police that Carey assaulted her in March 2018.

That was when Carey was running for district attorney in three Maine counties as a Republican.

A phone number listed under Carey's name was disconnected. It was unclear if he had hired a lawyer.
