TAMPA, Fla. – As Elsa approaches the area, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has announced that it is closing its theme park and Adventure Island water park early.

“Due to the anticipated impact of Tropical Storm Elsa, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will close at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6 to ensure the safety of our ambassadors, guests and animals,” the theme park said in a notice on its website.

A similar notice was also added to the Adventure Island website.

Both parks are expected to reopen Wednesday at noon, according to Busch Gardens.

Prior to announcing the early park closures, Busch Gardens removed its Summer Nights event, which includes fireworks, from Tuesday's schedule. 

As of this writing, Elsa is a tropical storm, but meteorologist expect it to strengthen into a category 1 hurricane this evening.
