ORLANDO, Fla. — Officials at Discovery Cove celebrated their latest addition to their pink flamingo family, which was born just weeks before National Flamingo Day on June 23.
The baby Caribbean flamingo hatched on June 7 to mom, Abbie, and dad, LJ, after following the normal incubation period of 27-31 days, officials said.
The chick has distinct, gray downy feathers to help it stay warm for now. It will start wandering off the nest within a few days to explore the shallow water, with mom and dad's supervision.
Officials said the chick is expected to reach adult size in four months and will be completely pink in about two to three years.
While the baby pink flamingo is not residing in the park's Flamingo Point public habitat yet, officials said visitors can observe the rest of the flamingos up close while learning from the park’s experts.
