TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay History Center's newest exhibit spotlights a time in Florida's History when railroads were essential to the state's growth.
"On Track: A History of Florida Railroads," located in the Touchton Map Library, features maps dating back to the mid-19th Century, tying the development of the state of Florida know today to the state's rail routes.
"[The exhibit] documents the establishment and growth of the railroad system throughout Florida through maps beginning in the 1850s and going all the way through the 1930s," said Touchton Map Library director Rodney Kite-Powell. "It really gave rise to the cities of Tampa on the West Coast and Miami on the East Coast."
The exhibit is on display through September 12. For a preview of the exhibit, watch the video above.
