PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — With only 90 seconds on the clock, Georgiann Perry will run up and down the aisles of Pet Supplies Plus in Clearwater grabbing as much as she can fit in her cart.
- Effort is to raise more than 14 tons of pet food, supplies

"I'm huge on the well-being for animals. That they're treated humanely and fair. This was a good cause for that," said Perry.
It started with a donation to Suncoast Organized Animal Relief (SOAR) in exchange for a couple raffle tickets.
Donations like Perry's are crucial to helping different shelters across the state.
"The Florida Panhandle was hit last year by Hurricane Michael, Category 5, and they're still in dire need. They were devastated up there. And they had over 1,000 horses left behind, over 1,000 cats and dogs abandoned and left behind. So they're very much in need still," said Stephen Bennett, executive director of SOAR.
So, over the last several weeks, SOAR has teamed up with Pet Supplies Plus to sell the tickets and collect donations.
The effort raised more than 14 tons of pet food and supplies to deliver to the Panhandle.
"It's all a part of giving back. We saw what SOAR was doing, and we just wanted to jump on that bandwagon. I mean, the Panhandle is in huge need of food right now, and it's been going on. When hurricanes and stuff like that happen, after 30 days or so, people tend to forget about what's going on unless they're seeing it all the time on the news. So SOAR reminds us every day of what's going on there and we wanted to help out with that," said Charley Lang, owner of Pet Supplies Plus.
At the end of the day, Perry walked away with nearly $1,200 worth of goods, half of which she plans to donate back to SOAR.
This is an ongoing effort. Anyone who wishes to donate either money or supplies can visit Pet Supplies Plus in Clearwater or Pinellas Park, or visit www.flsoar.org.
SOAR also just opened a pet food bank in St. Petersburg, which these donations will also benefit.
