A man already in jail on sexual assault charges is facing new charges in a separate case.
Leandre Snead, 28, of St. Petersburg, has been charged with armed sexual battery in an incident that took place on December 13th in the 600 block 10th Avenue South.
Police said the 19-year-old victim was visiting an acquaintance in the area and was walking home when she was approached by the suspect whom she did not know.
Police said the suspect initially asked to use her cell phone, but then produced a handgun and took her at gunpoint to a secluded area nearby where he sexually assaulted her.
After the suspect left the area, officers said the victim returned to her friend's house and called the police. Police said Snead was identified by DNA evidence.
Snead was incarcerated earlier this month in relation to a Dec. 29th sexual assault and auto theft.
