Police in St. Petersburg say a 4-year-old boy found a gun under his house Sunday and fired one round into the ground.
The St. Petersburg Police Department says at 5:15 p.m. officers were called to a home at 1742 Yale Street South.
Investigators said the boy had been outside playing with a cat and the cat ran under the house. Police said the boy went into the crawl space after the cat, found a gun and then took it onto the porch and fired one round into the ground.
No one was hurt, police said.
Officers said the boy’s mother and grandmother called police and them they do not own the gun.
Police said the weapon was an unregistered revolver with several rounds in it and investigators believe someone may have discarded or hidden the gun under the home.
