Pasco County is considering to rehab Sunwest Park in Hudson.
The park used to be a mine, but is now a home to a beach and cable skiing. However, Pasco officials worry that the park isn't being kept up the way it should.
"We think it's a great tourist attraction, but it needs to be kept in first class condition," Commissioner Jack Mariano said.
Mariano pointed to problems like beach erosion, unkempt sand, and things like shipping containers, which some consider to be an eye sore. Mariano thinks more can be done.
"You've got a tremendous beach that's here. You don't have to worry about red tide or sharks. You've got a great amenity with the wake boarding, you can do it a lot less expensively," he said.
The county will now step in and help the contractor who runs the cable skiing. The hope is to fix up the beach and possibly add more amenities like a restaurant or a hotel.
"I think expansion is good. I think it could generate a lot of revenue for people to come here," Mariano said.
The county is now reviewing proposals and hopes to make some quick fixes in the next few months.
Sunwest Park is located off U.S. 19 in Hudson and features giant inflatables at the aqua park.
Prices start at $10 per session.
