TAMPA, Fla. -- Fire crews are investigating a Monday morning blaze that damaged two homes.
- Blaze occurred Monday on N. 29th St.
- No serious injuries; cause of fire unknown
- House demolished due to it being a safety hazard
It happened just after 11:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of N. 29th St.
A man, his 5-month-old grandson and 2-year-old grandchild were inside the house. After noticing the fire, the three escaped and went to a neighbor’s home.
But the fire spread to the neighbor’s home too, so the family had to escape a second time.
“We really didn’t have too much of a flame, but it was still smoky,” said Anthony Penny, who lives in the home next door. “The attic was more on fire than anything.”
Crews got the fire under control by 12:15 p.m.

Penny wasn’t home when the fire started, but those who watched the flames from the street said the fire spread quickly.
“The power line caught fire, the wires,” said witness Tykidra Faison. “Everything was catching on fire.”
The man and his children were taken to a local hospital for treatment. None of them had life-threatening injuries.
Crews from code enforcement determined the house was a safety hazard, and it was demolished a few hours after the fire.
