TAMPA, Fla. -- Three people have been arrested after a vehicle hit a mother pushing her child in a stroller.
- Mother identified as Jessica Reisinger, 24
- Witnesses told police that two vehicles were racing
- 21-month-old remains hospitalized
The mother was killed in the Wednesday crash, and the 21-month-old was injured.
Tampa Police identified the mother as Jessica Reisinger, 24, of Jeromesville, Ohio.
Cameron Coyle Herrin, 18, Tristan Christopher Herrin, 20, and a 17-year-old were taken into custody.
The crash occurred at about 11:43 a.m. at Bayshore and W. Knights Avenue.
Officers said a 2018 black Ford Mustang driven by Cameron Herrin was traveling northbound on Bayshore Boulevard. Witnesses said the Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed and was racing another northbound vehicle. Tristan Herrin was a passenger in the Mustang.
The other vehicle engaged in the racing was a gold Nissan driven by a 17-year-old. (We're not naming him because of our crime guidelines.)
Witnesses said that at times the cars were side by side, and at other times they switched places and switched lanes.
Police said Cameron Herrin's vehicle struck the victims, who were crossing Bayshore Boulevard. Both victims were transported to Tampa General Hospital. Reisinger was declared dead at the hospital. The child, Lillia Raubenolt, sustained serious injuries.
The drivers of the two cars face charges of street racing, vehicular homicide and reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury. Tristan Herrin faces one count of racing.
