ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. -- St. Petersburg will soon have a new skate park.
- Grand opening of St. Pete skatepark
- Held Saturday, June 2 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Skatepark to feature street course, snake run, deep bowl
The grand opening of the St. Petersburg Regional Skatepark will be held Saturday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The city council approved of the park in August 2015 and broke ground on the $1.25 million project in June 2017.
The 28,000 square foot regional skatepark is housed in the Campbell Park neighborhood. It was designed and built by Cutler Associates, Team Pain Skate Parks, Hunter Booth of Booth Design Group and Dan Vickstrom of Vickstrom Engineering.
The park features everything from a street course, a snake run, an intermediate and a deep bowl. They said the 12-foot-deep bowl is the deepest skatepark bowl in Florida and is designed for advanced level skateboarders and BMX riders.
The skatepark also promotes physical fitness, exposes youth to new athletic opportunities, and will bring competitions for amateur and professional skateboarders and BMX riders to the St. Pete community.
"I am incredibly excited to have the new skatepark open. This is more than just one of the largest skatepark in Florida - this is a partnership with the Skatepark Alliance, Team Pain, and with our neighborhoods, especially Campbell Park. I want to thank everyone, including a Parks & Recreation Department, who worked so hard to make this a reality. This skatepark is also an important step in our goal of creating a Healthy St. Pete. Join us at the new Regional Skatepark and play healthy," Mayor Rick Kriseman said.
The grand opening event is free and open to the public. It is located at 600 12th Street S.
