WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. -- The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is still trying to identify a motive for what Sheriff Chris Nocco called a "targeted execution" that took place in a Wesley Chapel subdivision Wednesday.
- Shooting victim Heans Alvarez was 46 years old
- Sheriff says man was targeted; shooting not random
- Anyone with information asked to call Sheriff's Office
Nocco said the victim, Heans Gianni Alvarez, a construction worker, was 46 years old.
Family members of Alvarez told us he didn't have any enemies and they had no idea why someone would want him dead.
"My uncle," said Gerarde Jimenez Alvarez's nephew, sobbing openly. "I don't know what happened. The problem here, I don't know."
The sheriff said Alvarez and others were working at a construction site when they took a break during the noon hour.
Two black males reportedly approached the work site and Alvarez. They tapped him on the leg, then fatally shot him, Nocco said.
"You would suspect if he knew them there would have been signs that he may have been about to take off and run," Nocco explained. "But there was no indication at this time that showed that he was trying to flee from them."
It seems like they just caught him by surprise and executed him right at that spot," Nocco concluded.
Nocco said the suspects knew the shooting victim and that there were no signs of robbery.
"He did have jewelry on him," Nocco noted. "The jewelry was not removed, so that shows us even more it was just clearly ... they were there for the sole intention of executing him."
The sheriff said the men were between 5 feet 3 and 5 feet 8 inches tall, and each had short, braided hair.
Officials said this appears to be an isolated incident and not a threat to the community. Investigators collected evidence at the scene and are looking for surveillance video or a tip to help them solve the case.
Nocco said anyone with information should call the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
