DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Pinellas County Sheriff's Office detectives are working to track down a man who a witness said entered a private Dunedin residence, shot a pregnant woman, then fled on foot Wednesday afternoon.
- Naomi Rosado, 20 weeks pregnant, in intensive care
- Boyfriend said intruder walked in through unlocked front door
- K9 unit, flight unit unable to locate intruder
Deputies were called to an apartment in the 1100 block of New York Avenue around 1:03 p.m. in response to a report of a home invasion. When they arrived they found Naomi Rosado, 18, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Rosado's boyfriend, Charles Tenpenny, 19, was also in the apartment when deputies arrived. He told them he was there with Rosado when the intruder entered the apartment through the unlocked front door.
The intruder, according to Tenpenny, then shot Rosado and fled the home on foot. At that time, Tenpenny called 911 and tried to tend to Rosado's injuries.
Detectives said a K9 unit and a flight unit were called in to assist deputies in their search for the suspect, but they were unsuccessful. Tenpenny described the intruder as male and entirely dressed in black.
Detectives also discovered that Rosado is 20 weeks pregnant. They said the medical condition of the baby is unknown at this time and that Rosado is still in intensive care.
