ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.-- The St. Pete City Council will consider proposed utility rate increases during their August meetings.

  • St. Pete considering utility rate increases
  • If approved will take effect Oct. 1
  • Public hearing Aug. 23 at 6 p.m.

They say they will consider proposed increases to water, wastewater, reclaimed water, stormwater, and sanitation utility rates Aug. 2 and during a public hearing Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber.

If approved, utility rate increases would take effect on Oct. 1.

The city says customers could see adjustments to monthly sanitation and stormwater fees on their October bills and rate increases for water, wastewater and reclaimed water would appear on their November bills.

On April 1 the city plans to move from their current one-size-fits-all flat rate residential stormwater billing system to a system based on the square footage of a property's surfaces.

The city says once this system goes into effect, single-family residential utility customers could see either an increase or decrease to their monthly stormwater charges.

The city says that the proposed rate adjustments may be viewed following the Aug. 2 meeting at www.stpete.org/utility.
